Ujjain is easy to reach from most of central and western India. Here are your options, with the practical details people usually ask about.
Flying in
The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport at Indore, about 53 km away, with regular flights from cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bhopal. A taxi or bus takes you on to Ujjain in roughly an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic.
Coming by train
Ujjain Junction (station code UJN) sits on the Western Railway network with direct services from many large cities. For most pilgrims it is the simplest and most economical option. Autos and e-rickshaws wait outside the station for the ride towards the temple area.
Driving or taking a bus
Highways connect Ujjain with Indore (about 55 km), Bhopal (about 183 km) and Ahmedabad (about 400 km). State and private buses run these routes regularly, and self-drive guests will find parking at most stays.
The last mile
Vehicle access near Mahakaleshwar is restricted on busy days, so you will often be dropped at the edge of the temple zone and walk the final stretch. Staying within walking distance, as our guests do, means no scramble for a last-minute ride.
